In 1975 the national flag was adopted. The design for this flag was based on the flag of MPLA which was the main nationalist group who, after centuries as a Portuguese colony, won the county's independence .In the centre of the countries flag is the emblem, which stands for agriculture and industry the colour yellow represents the country's wealth, this was added to the flag to make look similar to the hammer and sickle on the old Soviet flag.
