FLAG OF BAHRAIN

South West Asia

In 1959 the flag of Bahrain was adopted. From 1820 to 1971 the country was under British protection, until 1971 when independence was obtained. The colour red in the flag represents the traditional colours of the Gulf States and the serrated edges were added to the flag between both colours for distinction. The white area on the flag was added as Britain asked all friendly states to include white in their flags in the General Maritime Treaty of 1820.
