FLAG OF BARBADOS

West Indies

In 1966 the Barbados flag was adopted at the time of independence. It was designed as part of a local competition which was won y a local art teacher. The colour blue represents the deep blue of the Caribbean Sea, while the golden strip in the centre of the design is for the golden sands of the island. The symbol in the centre of the flag is a broken trident, which is meant to break with the past, and is also the emblem of the sea god, Neptune.
