FLAG OF BELIZE

Central America

In 1981 the Belize flag was adopted at the time of independence. The red stripes on the top and bottom of the flag were designed on the flag to denote the colour of the opposition while the colour blue is the party colour for the PUP, (People's United Party) the 50 leaves on the Arms Of Belize (symbol in the centre of the flag) represent 1950 when the PUP came to power. The picture in the centre of the leaves represents the logging industry.
